I received a variator locking tool for my 50cc 139QMB Chinese scooter engine and it really works great! The best thing about it is that now I can change a belt on the road with just a few hand tools. That's piece of mind. I've seen similar tools for other makes but none for my engine till now. Thanks ZTR!  Dave Fox

Quick Change Hub and Sprocket PDF Print E-mail

The ZTR Products Quick Change Hub and Sprocket is the newest addition to our product line.  The new product is a combined effort of ZTR Products and Hot Quads.

The development of this New Quick Change Hub and Sprocket Assembly is due to a much needed time savings in the mini quad industry.  It is designed to fit the DRR and Apex mini quads.  The patent pending design has proven to be a huge time saver for any racer adjusting their quad due to the ever chaning track conditions.

The hub and sprocket are both HARD black anodized which increases the surface hardness of the 7075 Aluminum and in turn produces a longer lasting product.  The racer as well as the avid rider will benefit from the major improvements that the New Quick Change Hub and Sprocket bring.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

The ZTR Products Quick Change Hub and Sprocket simplifies changing a sprocket on the quad.

The old way to change a sprocket:

  1. Remove the wheel
  2. Remove the two axle nuts from axle (this includes any tape or loc-tite that is used to keep the axle nuts from vibrating loose)
  3. Slide the hub and sprocket off the axle
  4. Remove the 3 bolts from the sprocket
  5. Replace sprocket from hub and install new sprocket
  6. Reinstall the 3 bolts in the new sprocket
  7. Slide the hub and sprocket on the axle
  8. Reinstall the two axle nuts, including any tape or loc-tite needed to keep the nuts from vibrating loose
  9. Attach wheel

The new way to change a sprocket:

  1. Remove the wheel
  2. Remove the 3 bolts from the sprocket
  3. Rotate sprocket 30 Degrees, slide through hub and install new sprocket
  4. Reinstall the 3 bolts in the new sprocket
  5. Attach wheel
This is a huge reduction in the time required to make a simple sprocket change.  As we all know time is money and when you are at the track time tends to move twice as fast.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

  • Precision CNC machined
  • Constructed of 7075-T651 aircraft grade aluminum
  • Both the Hub and Sprocket are HARD Black Anodized adding to the longevity of the product
  • Sprocket lips over the hub to reduce stress on the 3 bolts
  • Sprockets available in sizes from 24 to 36 tooth (Others available upon request)

The sprocket lipping over the hub .100" may seem subtle and cosmetic, it is far from that.  I am sure that everyone is diligent in checking to make sure that the sprocket bolts are tight at all times, right?

Let's say for instance at some time you have a mental lapse and forget to check the bolts for tightness.  During the race one of the bolts works its way loose from the sprocket.  The next thing you know the chain is on the ground, your precision racing machine is dead still on the track and you receive a DNF!!!  What happened is when the bolt came loose the 2 remain bolts have to pick up the slack.  Instead of sharing an equal load of 33.3% among all three bolts, now the 2 remain bolts have an increased load of 50%.  Due to the added stress they are shread off and the sprocket is no longer attached to the hub.

To remedy such a nightmare at the track or out casually riding we have added a counter-bore of .100" to the sprocket.  Now the hub shares some of the radial load from the bolts allowing you to make it through the race or back home to replace the missing bolt.  So a subtle and seemingly cosmetic counter-bore is a very crucial addition and advantage to the New Quick Change Hub and Sprocket.

WHY DO I NEED THIS?

Our Quick Change Hub and Sprocket will allow you to change a sprocket in less than half of the time normally required.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE AXLE TO CHANGE THE SPROCKET!

These high performance torque springs constructed of a proprietary alloy that performs better than titanium for the application.

CAUTION, ENGINEERING LANGUAGE BELOW.  PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Q.  What does that mean that it performs better?

A.  It means that these torque springs are going to give you repeatable results during racing that is unmatched as these springs will hold their spring constant over repeated compression/elongation cycles and during temperature stresses.  If the torque spring maintains a steady spring constant, then the shifting points of the torque will remain the same allowing the rider to depend on his/her machine.

Q.  What is a spring constant?

A.  A spring constant is a term used to describe the stiffness of a spring and is commonly measured in pounds per inch.  For example, a spring with a spring constant of 33 lb/in means that if you apply a 33 lb force to a spring it will compress (in our case for the torque spring) one inch.  A spring constant is defined as F=k*x where k is the spring constant, x is the distance traveled and F is the force applied.  There is a wealth of knowledge on the internet on springs .

We will keep this page updated with availability information.  We at Zero Tolerance Racing (ZTR) Products are very excited about our new products.  We have many more in development from electronics, engine performance, and suspension products.
